Document opened in read-simply manner

"Document opened in read-only mode"
The "document" is a 65 page workbook which is my weekly accounts, I'm on page 38 and it was fine when I used it the other mean solar day. at present it's telling me that I've opened it in read only mode. Information technology's not a protected document equally this is my home PC and I'm the only one that uses it (I alive lonely). I've found that if I open the workbook and "save equally", the new saved certificate is fine. But in that location must be a uncomplicated way of correcting this.

The document attribute is not ready to read only (that was the first thing I checked). But thanks for replying :) The problem seems to exist with OpenOffice, Anyone else go a inkling?

I've seen this happen on an part network. What I do (in a file browser such every bit Windows Explorer) is copy the file to a new proper name, delete the quondam file, and rename the new file to the old proper noun.

Alternatively, yous could try clicking the Edit button on the toolbar.

Some other option is to try File->Save Equally and see what happens.

In other forum I take plant the solution.
Open a binder/click in one case on the file you similar/click organize (summit left)/click property/click protection/click users/click modify/click to allow complete control/ok/ok/ fonoshed. On the file the icon is changed and now it is like shooting fish in a barrel to alter the file (also for viruses I think).

How do I open up OpenOffice 2.3 without it being read-only mode? (I'm unable to enter any data) I don't even know what a read-only manner is? Hopefullly, I don't need to understand it to correct this problem.----Rands

Read-only mode means that you cannot save any changes to the certificate. If you open a file from a cd or dvd, it will be read-merely because OO cannot write to such media. What is your situation?

Read only normally occurs when more than one case of a file is open up at the same time.

I only upgraded OO from ii.2 to iii.0. Now, every time I open up a file, it is automatically in READ Simply mode. I have a workaround, but this REALLY needs to be stock-still.

I'one thousand running OO 3.0 on Vista SP1. If I create a new file, I tin can't salvage it, it is immediately in read only mode (same for opening older files). Currently seeing this in the spreadsheet app. This is caused because OO doesn't correctly handle it's lock files!

When you open or create a file name "examination.ods", information technology creates the lock file ".~lock.exam.ods#". If I create this file, then immediately delete this lock file, I can now save my document (once; information technology recreates the file on relieve). I have full permissions on this file, I can delete it at any fourth dimension, even while the file information technology locks is open. When I close the ods file, the lock file is left behind, preventing edits in the hereafter without pre-deleting the lock file.

This really Really is a showstopper for about people, we really need a betoken update to ready this.

Is at that place a better place to mail bug reports (e.g. similar bugzilla for mozilla products), or does this forum function in this capacity?

The bug is already fixed and due for release in 3.0.i next month.

The trouble can exist triggered when you include a comma or semicolon in your user information (Tools > Options > OO.org > User Information > Name). Just remove the problem characters and you should exist able to edit your files ordinarily.

Have you read the Forum Survival Guide? This is not the place to report bugs, although you can discuss them here.

Over some 7 years I have never experienced this problem. When a document is opened a 'lock' file is created. If the lock file is still in that location later on you close the file, delete it.

You can as well check the menu pick (for Calc, other apps probably the same) File > Properties > [tab] Security > 'Open file read-simply' which should NOT be selected if you want to edit the file.

Some other possibility is to modify the file permissions using your file manager or some such tool. I am not familiar with Windows 7.

For the record, double posting with: [Outcome] 3.iii.0 - "Read-merely" when saved in .doc + password. Please don't multi-mail service, especially if your problem is not exactly the same (for the other topic for instance, except if y'all're talking about password protected files exported in .doctor).

I got rid of Microsoft Role for Open Role and had the read-only trouble.
The easy fashion out is to copy the file to another folder and the attribute disappears.
Alternatively, re-create and past the entire folder. if you have lots of files with the aforementioned problem.
